Providing the correct care for your tools is essential as a nail technician. Follow our step-by-step guide to ensure proper tool aftercare.
1. Soak
Firstly, you will need a disinfectant solution. Mix the solution in clean, warm water and submerge your tools for 15-30 minutes.
2. Wash and Dry
Due to the corrosive nature of a disinfectant, we would advise rinsing your tools for at least 2-3 times to remove any residue. Afterwards, make sure to dry your tools thoroughly. You can do this with a clean microfibre cloth.
3. Sterilise
It is essential to sterilise metal tools to eliminate harmful pathogens.
Suitable Methods include using the following sterilisers:
- Dry heat (e.g., autoclaves, glass bead)
- UV
- Ultrasonic
- Liquid
- Steam
We recommend using dry heat sterilisers for the most effective form of sterilisation. When using liquid or steam methods, ensure tools are thoroughly dried to prevent rusting.
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe and effective sterilisation.
4. Oil
For Cuticle Nippers and Cuticle Scissors, we also recommend oiling the hinges and joints. Over time, these tools can become stiff and difficult to use so, it is important to carry this out regularly.
You can use sewing machine oil, motor oil or any oil with anti-corrosion properties. Whilst wearing gloves, apply a small amount to the hinges/joints and open and close, using the handles to distribute the oil. Don’t worry if some oil leaks out! You can use a clean cloth to wipe up the excess.
