Hollie Barker’s step by step guide
Achieving the Perfect Monochrome French Tip
Creating Hollie Barker’s monochrome look is a simple yet striking way to elevate your nail game. We have condensed her guide to create these easy to follow step-by-step instructions so you can recreate this at home.
Start by prepping your nails. This will include removing any old polishes, as well as, filing and buffing them to your desired shape. Make sure to dehydrate the nail plate using acetone before moving onto your base coat.
Apply your desired base coat. Here Joely used a Pink Naturabuild, but you can choose any colour that complements your skin tone or personal style. The base coat will help protect your nails and create a smooth surface for the nail polish to adhere to.
Using your liner brush and white one-coat gel, make a little mark in the top centre of the nail. This is important as it will serve as a guide for the next step.
Using your white one-coat gel and liner brush, create half of an angled free tip on the top of your nail. This will be the white portion of the monochrome design. Be sure to keep the white portion centred and symmetrical on the nail.
Next, using the same liner brush and black one-coat gel, do the opposite side of the free tip. This will complete the monochrome design, with a white tip on one side and a black tip on the other.
Once the design is complete, apply a top coat to seal in the design and add shine. A top coat will also help to protect the design and make it last longer.
